Pictures of Children

This is just a very short blog - I am in the process of writing something else but this question has been bugging me.

I have my first grand-daughter, a two year known by me as Beach Ball as I have never seen a child with such a perfectly circular head. She is, needless to say, perfect, adorable, funny, enchanting, huggable and someone I see too little of.

I would love to show some pictures of her but stop short of doing so because I do not want her image to end up in some, how shall I put it, unfortunate's album, especially as my and her mother's name are very distinctive and would be easily traceable and , additionally, because of the indescrible horror the McCann family are living through at this moment.

What do other parents/grand-parents think?

You are not alone, David. as a new but enthusiastic recruit to the blogging world, I eagerly set up my site but then, as a father of 4, began to wonder, how much information do you give? Names? Ages? Pictures?

The rational side of me says that as with the outside world, most adults not going to do anything other than look at those pictures, smile and move on. But the scale of the downloads of dubious images seems beyond belief.

I suppose I took a cautious, (is the word coward's too strong?) way out and keep children anonymous.

I do not think the word is coward at all. I personally do not see a pedophile round every corner nor think all are predatory but now that the issue is so public how would you or I ever forgive ourselves for being 'courageous' on someone else's behalf?

True.

On a lighter note, I used to call my eldest son Charlie Brown because of the beachball phenomenon, in a kind sort of a way...

Your last comment made me laugh because it reminded me of my cousin, Charles or Charlie, whose nickname, as a baby, was FooFoo because of his anility to act as a fountain when lying on his back.

For me this is one of those personal choice things. Some poeple do, some don't. Me? I wouldn't.

Hiya Gary!!!
I think you're right. I don't think I would either.

dot: yeah the fountain thing was a major hazard during nappy changing.
ANYWAY I'm off now, I'll try not to be rude or sarky to anyone today! :-)

I made a decision not to put up pictures of the kids or refer to them by name on my blog. I made the decision to protect them from a number of things. Just in case I guess. Also I kind of like littlie being littlie. Personal choice I guess.

Hi, am not a parent or grandparent so can't comment on your post. I'm here on a semi-official visit from the novel racers, we've noticed that you haven't been at the coffee breaks recently, and that you only have a few of us on your sidebar. Do you want to stay in the race? If so, please leave a comment on Kate/Wordgirl's blog sometime in the next week to say so (and we would be grateful if you could update your sidebar too). If you want to leave the race, you don't need to do anything and we'll take you out at the end of next week.

Hello again, apparently some people have been upset by my last message, I don't know if you are one of them but if you are please do accept my apologies. This subject has been under discussion at the last two coffee breaks and we thought we'd come up with a good way forward, but sometimes things come across differently than they are meant... there was no intention of wagging fingers or telling anyone off, just an attempt to find out who wanted to stay and who didn't as our sidebars are getting very long! I'm really very sorry if my comment upset you, and please do email me if this apology feels insufficient.
